The Rice School ~ La Escuela Rice
August, 2006

Dear Parents,

In order to raise money for celebrations throughout the year and end-of-year activities, eighth grade students will be able to pay $1.00 every Friday for the privilege of wearing denim blue jeans with their Rice School uniform or Friday T-shirts. When they report to homeroom on Fridays, they should be ready to pay their homeroom teacher the $1.00. Homeroom teachers will collect the money and keep a record of who has paid for the privilege each Friday. Students who do not wish to participate can wear their regular uniform bottoms.

Appropriate jeans are full-length blue denim pants (no shorts, capris, or skirts). Extremes will not be tolerated (no bell-bottoms, no hip-huggers, no excessively baggy pants, no cut-offs, no frayed jeans, no holes, no pants dragging on the ground, etc.). If the students abuse this privilege, we will have to end this fund-raiser and return to wearing the khaki uniform bottoms on Fridays. This is a special privilege for the eighth grade students, a mark of their “senior” status, and they are expected to act responsibly.

This fund-raiser will not bring in all the money needed for eighth grade celebrations and end-of-year activities, but it will help keep the end-of-year fee to a minimum.

Thank your for your support on behalf of the eighth grade cluster.

Ms. Edith Brown, Cluster Leader
Ms. Jacquiline Curtis, Assistant Principal
