Q: What is the Admissions Process?

Q: When does school officially start and end?
A: August 22, 2011 at 7:55 am – 3:00pm
   
Q: When is orientation?
A: August 18, 2011 4:30pm – 6:00pm
   
Q: How do I view calendars and upcoming events?
A: HISD and School calendars are at http://thericeschool.org/main/school-info/calendars. Upcoming Events are posted on the side bar of the website and at http://thericeschool.org/main/archives/category/events.
   
Q: What do students wear the first day of school?
A: Rice school uniform shirt (Red/White/Blue), Khaki bottoms (please see PTO web site for examples of shirts and bottoms)
   
Q: I ordered school supplies for this school year. When will they arrive?
A: School Supplies will arrive the first week of school. They will be delivered to the cluster and distributed.
   
Q: When is Falcon Camp?
A: Falcon Camp is for all incoming 6th Grade students, it will be held August 10, 2011, 7:45am – Noon.
   
Q: Where do I park?
A: You may park in the lot in front of the Cafeteria, or on the street. Vehicles parked in fire lane will be ticketed. Please do not park in the Administrative parking lot (small lot in front of school)
   
Q: When will homeroom teachers be assigned to the students?
A: Cluster doors will have the list posted on the night of Orientation.
   
Q: How can I stay informed of activities at the Rice school?
A: Please subscribe to the email list on the home page of the Rice School website and the PTO website to stay informed of any events.
   
Q: How do I find out what bus my student is riding this year?
A: Parents can dial 713-556-8900 on August 11 and 12, August 15–19, and August 22 and 23, from 900 a.m. to 400 p.m. for quick and direct access to back-to-school information. HISD administrators will answer parents’ questions regarding school zones and boundaries, immunizations, enrollment and registration, policies and procedures, transportation and bus schedules, and other information. HISD is responsible for all bus schedule mail outs.
   
Q: Will my student be permitted to carry a cell phone?
A: Although students may bring cell phones to school, the use of cell phones is not permitted during the school day. Infractions against the cell phone policy will result in appropriate disciplinary action and confiscation of the cell phone (with a $15 processing fee).
   
Q: How can I help?
A: The Rice school has many opportunities for parents who wish to volunteer. Please make sure you have filled out the VIPS information on the HISD website (http//amun.houstonisd.org/visits/en-us/login.aspx). This will allow you to volunteer for activities at the RiceSchool. We welcome parent volunteers. Please contact our Volunteer Coordinator Vickie Matson, at mcvmatson@yahoo.com or call the PTO message Center 713-349-1800 ext. 316.
   
Q: I have uniforms that are no longer being used by my student. Can I donate them to the Rice School?
A: YES! We will gladly take your old, gently used RiceSchoollogo shirts and khaki bottoms. Please make sure they are the new logo and not the falcon logo. We are no longer using the falcon logo.
   
Q: Where is lost and found located?
A: Found items will be placed in the black cabinets near the Uniform Store.
   
Q: What if my student(s) were placed on the waiting list for the Rice School?
A: Waiting list students will be contacted once a space becomes available.
